Add extra functionality to your VirtualCenter !
Well after some days of programming, i am happy to release the first version of VCplus. A program that adds functionality to your VirtualCenter environment! It allows you to see what the actual disk usage is within your Virtual Machines, Easily see if a Virtual Machine has a snapshot and what the size of the snapshot files are and it allows you to sync the VM’s DNS name to the Display Name.

I have it running and it works flawlessly in my environment.
The service refused to start the first time, but when I tried again is started just fine … just like you say in the readme

The tool is a great idea!
Unfortunately I have not been able to use it. I am emailing the address in the readme with more details.
Thanks.

Great tool! I did not realize the repercussions of my actions when I clicked the sync the name button. That freaked my co-workers out as they saw every VM get renamed.
If you are taking suggestions for future versions, a custom field for connected media. As we are doing maintenance on servers, we have to run perl scripts first to list servers with floppies and ISOs connected and disconnect them first. Having it display graphically for other admins would simplify my instructions to them. Thanks for this tool.

Hi Kent,
I agree that that could be a very valuable addition to VC Plus. But to give you something before Richard will be able to implement it into VC plus, I’ve uploaded a script that may ease your trouble.
It uses the VI Perl Toolkit and searches a host for VM’s that have devices connected to them, and then automatically disconnects them so you can VMotion them. It’s eases your life if you want to put a host in Maintenance Mode and not worry about any connected Devices.
You can download the script here: http://www.run-virtual.com/files/host_maintenance_device_check.zip

Hi,
if I run the VCplus tool in my VC VM, I also see this error in the event logs:
Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: with error: This network connection does not exist.
For the diskfree size it works fine, but it will not add data into the SnapshotDelta fields.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

I’ve got about 7 custom attributes already.
I attempted to use it, and it apparently wants to use the first couple attribute settings, because it threw an exception about the attributes already being used.
Could you add the capability to specify which attribute numbers it uses?
Many thanks,
Jase

Is it possible to uninstall VCPlus once it’s installed ?

Cool addon. It worked fine in my environment. It would be useful if you could start/stop the service from the VCPlus Control.
Many Thanks

Great idea.
Unfortunately on about half my VMs (150) it doesn’t fill in the disk fields for some reason.

Installed it into our test environment and it worked fine thanks for a great utility. Can’t wait until it has email notification to plug the gap that VC has…

Hello, can you tell me if there is an API to customize VC GUI? For example, how can I add new menu items or list columns as you have done here in VCPlus? TIA.

Hi all.
When i configured VCPlus and try to connect to my VC, VC fall down, more exactly the service VMware VirtualCenterServer fall down and i have to restart the machine for the service to work properly.
Why?

Installation failed

After uninstallation you can remove the custom attributes that are created with the VCPlus.
Administration -> custom attributes -> delete attributes you want to delete.

Hey,
the tool VCPlus is really great !! We have successfully implemented it in
our productive environment, and we are really taking benefits of it’s usage
every day.
However the extra functions below, especially e-mail alerts, that you were going to implement in the next versions would be our dream
)
“..extra functionality like a warning field that will tell you if a VM is running out of disk space or is a snapshot file is getting too big. These warnings will also be able to be emailed to you…”
short & easy question: when could we expect the new version to released?

Does anyone know if this works reliably on 3.5
